The Benefits of Garlic in Controlling Cholesterol and Blood Sugar

Benefits of Garlic

Introduction

Beijing: A new study has found that garlic consumption can help control cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

Overview of the Research

A team of Chinese scientists reviewed numerous past studies examining the effects of garlic on glucose and lipid (fat) metabolism in the blood.

To conduct their research, the scientists analyzed data from 29 trials to see how garlic affects cholesterol, blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), and triglycerides. Monitoring these conditions often involves looking at blood levels. During routine check-ups, blood tests typically measure cholesterol, fasting blood glucose (the amount of glucose in the body after 8 to 12 hours), HbA1c, and triglycerides.

Health Monitoring

The results of these examinations help doctors determine whether a patient is at risk for conditions such as diabetes or high cholesterol.

Findings on Garlic's Effects

In their latest study, researchers aimed to determine whether garlic could impact fat and blood glucose levels.

The analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between garlic consumption and improvements in various metabolic markers.

Specific Benefits

Garlic supplements were found to reduce fasting glucose, HbA1c, total cholesterol, and harmful cholesterol levels. Additionally, an increase in beneficial cholesterol levels was observed with garlic consumption.
